Earthquake Event Catalog

Earthquake event catalog is a menu for downloading earthquake parameter data. There are several types of earthquake parameter data that can be downloaded:

  • User could request preliminary earthquake parameter catalog sourced from real-time InaTEWS-BMKG procesing system. In the first few minutes after an earthquake, preliminary event catalog may fluctuate and erroneous, unless have been revised or reprocessed by seismologist.
  • Final earthquake catalog consist of final earthquake parameter reviewed and relocated by seismologist.
  • Significant/felt earthquake consist of any felt earthquakes reported by people.
  • Destructive earthquakes are catalog for destructive earthquake including tsunami catalog

Waveform Catalog

Waveform Catalog is a menu that is useful for accessing seismic signal data (seismic waveform) from the seismic sensor network owned by BMKG. BMKG has more than 400 seismic sensors spread throughout Indonesia. This seismic sensor network is codenamed IA (Indonesia). To be able to download seismic signal data, users must have a username and password obtained by contacting email inatews@bmkg.go.id .

Metadata Catalog

Metadata catalog consists of geophysical instrument properties from InaTEWS seismic network. Station metadata denotes the combination between type of seismic sensor and type of datalogger in such a seismic station. Here, the station metadata is presented in fdsnXML and scXML format. Proper station metadata determines that the calculation of earthquakes can be done precisely.

BMKG's Open Data Policy

BMKG data is available in an open and easy-to-use format, with the aim of increasing government transparency and accountability, as well as increasing public participation in overseeing government performance.

Azimuth gap

Azimuthal gap is the maximum angle separating two adjacent seismic stations, both measured from the epicenter of an earthquake. If azimuthal gap is more than 180°, the location accuracy degrades significantly. The detection capability of a network can be evaluated based on the relationship between magnitude and observation distance.

Geographic latitude coordinate of earthquake epicenter

Location

Location name of earthquake epicenter refer to Flinn-Engdahl (F-E) Region. The F-E regions comprise a set of contiguous seismic zones which cover the Earth's surface. In seismology, they are the standard for localizing earthquakes. The scheme was proposed in 1965 by Edward A.

Longitude

Geographic longitude coordinate of earthquake epicenter

Type of earthquake magnitude such as Mlv, Mw, MwP etc

Value which indicate the size of earthquake strength

InaTEWS Earthquake Repository Version 1.0

Earthquake Repository  is a web-based application functioned to serve request of catalog :

  1. Event catalog
    • User could request preliminary earthquake parameter catalog sourced from real-time InaTEWS-BMKG procesing system. In the first few minutes after an earthquake, preliminary event catalog may fluctuate and erroneous, unless have been revised or reprocessed by seismologist.
    • Final  earthquake catalog consist of final earthquake parameter reviewed and relocated by seismologist.
    • Significant/felt earthquake  consist of any felt earthquakes reported  by people.
    • Destructive earthquakes are  catalog for  destructive earthquake including tsunami catalog
    In addition for event catalog, user are possible to request for origin (main parameter) and or with arrival time phase.   Requested output will  be displayed in to the map as well as  into tabular form.  Output would also saved in selected output such as CSV, excel and PDF formats.

  2. Waveform catalog
    Waveform catalog consist of selected station waveform  based on  time  of interest.

  3. Station metadata catalog
    Station metadata catalog consist of InaTEWS seismic station metadata requested by user.

Earthquake Repository could be accessed by public access and password protected web. For administration purpose, user need to submit their email name before request the data. Seismic waveform data including arrival phases and metadata are follow BMKG regulation. Any enquiry and request, please open the following link ptsp.bmkg.go.id.
